Self-test for the detection of ferritin levels in whole blood samples

Iron is an essential metal for our bodies and is crucial for transporting oxygen in the blood, for cell multiplication and to build the structure of tissues and organs. However, in excessively high levels it is toxic for the body. For this reason, every one of us has a system for taking up iron from the external environment (e.g. via a diet rich in iron-containing foods) and storing it in cells in a way that is not excessive (and therefore not toxic). Ferritin is the protein responsible for this storage function. The level of ferritin is an excellent indicator of the amount of iron available to the body. Low levels of this protein in the blood are an indication of depleted iron stores, a condition that precedes the development of anaemia. A decrease can be caused by pregnancy, haemorrhages, alterations in iron uptake.

IRON FER TEST is useful for checking the body’s iron reserves.

Draw a blood sample by using the sterile lancet provided.
Collect the sample indicated with the black line by using the capillary pipette provided.
Deposit the collected specimen into the sample well (S) indicated on the test cassette.
Add 2 drops of the diluent and wait 5 minutes before reading the result.

What happens if the results reading time is not met?  The test has been carried out correctly when the instructions for use are followed. It includes the reading time and the interpretation of the results shown at the "RESULTS INTERPRETATION" section of the instructions for use

How to prove that the test worked correctly? A coloured line will appear at the control region (C) on the test device, showing that the test performed correctly. The absence of the coloured line suggests to repeat the test with a new device and a new sample.

How to interpret the test if the control and test lines have different intensities? The colour and intensity of the lines do not affect the interpretation of the result. The test has to be considered positive regardless of the colour intensity of the test line (T).
