Self-test for detecting albumin in the urine

Albumin is the most abundant plasma protein, formed principally in the liver and constituting up to 2/3 of the 6-8% protein concentration in the plasma. Albumin is responsible for much of the colloidal osmotic pressure of the blood, and thus is very important to regulate the exchange of water between the plasma and the interstitial compartment (i.e., the space between the cells).
The presence of albumin in the urine (albuminuria) may indicate a malfunction of the kidneys and it can accompany kidney disease or heart failure.

This test is suggested for everyone who has the suspect of kidney's pathology or with special condition like high blood pressure, diabetes or pregnancy.

Open the foil bag, take out only the test cassette and throw away the desiccant bag.
Collect the urine sample in a clean, dry and residue-free container (not supplied with the kit).
Press the bulb of the pipette and immerse the tip of the pipette in the collected sample, then release the bulb.
Deposit 3 drops of the extracted sample and wait 5 minutes before reading the result.

What happens if the times for reading the results are not met? The test has been carried out correctly when the instructions for use are followed, including the reading time and interpretation of the results shown at the "RESULTS INTERPRETATION" section of the instructions for use.

Is it possible to take the test at any time? It is advisable to carry out the test with the first urine of the morning, in the presence of symptoms affecting the urinary tract or in case of suspected hyperglycaemia and hypertriglyceridemia. The test can also be use during pregnancy.

How to interpret the test if the control and test lines have different intensities? The colour and intensity of the lines do not affect the interpretation of the result. The lines must be smooth and full. The test has to be considered negative regardless of the colour intensity of the test line (T).
